A partly destroyed "ManeTec" factory complex, occupied by raiders. Apart from them you should watch out for automatic defense systems and occasional monsters

–PipBuck map tip

Also called Plant.

First grind map.

For trials in this location, see Category:Factory trials.

Factory serves as an introduction to grind maps, and contains a mix of raiders, robots, wasteland creatures, and radiation.

Layout[]

Factory maps are always 4 rooms wide and usually 6 rooms tall, except for the first level, which is only 3 rooms tall.

Unlike previous maps, like the Technical tunnels or Surface, Factory's rooms are completely randomized, and will generate differently every time a new level is created.

Game Progress[]

This is the first location that you end up going to once you've gotten in touch with the locals. Here you begin your search for factory's central maneframe.

Once you've reached the EXIT door in the 3rd level, you'll gain the ability to travel to the Department of Special Research to continue your search of the maneframe.

Gameplay[]

As well as raiders and various hostile wildlife that you've seen before on the Surface, you'll also come across new enemies such as ghouls, slimes and various basic robots and turrets.

Since you won't have much equipment to use at this point, many encounters can be quite dangerous. Groups of raiders or ground turrets can pose a significant threat to you, as you don't have the proper armor, weapons and supplies to take them down effectively. If things get too hard, remember to return to base camp using either a M.A.S. terminal or a Rune of return to sell valuables, heal and resupply.

Some enemies, like the slimes or rollers, can be tricky to kill without the right weapon, such as fire and plasma for slimes and explosions or high damage weapons for rollers. It's recommended to try avoiding them as much as possible if you do not have effective means of dealing with them.

Traps become more dangerous here. Spiked debris and snare traps can be found nearly everywhere, as well as mines. Can trail alarms can be found in places where raiders are, which will alert them to your presence if triggered. Grenade bouquets hang from the ceiling, which drop down and explode if the tripwire below them is activated. Mounted guns will fire at you if their pressure plate or tripwire is activated.

Possibly the most dangerous traps are the alarms and alarm buttons. If an alarm is triggered or a button is pressed, all enemies will go on high alert searching for you and reinforcements will be called in, adding even more chaos to the mix. Reinforcements will not give experience, but they will drop loot.

As you search each room you'll come across golden horseshoes. These will reward you with small amounts of experience, with a larger amount when you collect the last horseshoe in a room. It's recommended to find and collect as much as possible as they both encourage exploration of each room and give valuable experience.

With your lack of skills, most weapons you come across will be useful, even if you do not plan on using those weapons in the future. Melee weapons prove to be very useful, as many enemies are slow or weak enough to be quickly defeated by them, and you don't have much ammunition for Firearms or Energy weapons. Explosives can work well to destroy armored enemies that weaker weapons won't be able to damage effectively. If you have offensive spells, they can be used quite effectively since magic potions will restore a lot of magic at this point, and M.A.S. terminals will restore magic as well.
