Limited Inventory Mode is an option that you can select at the start of the game when creating a new character. It is recommended to be an experienced player before turning it on, since it makes gameplay more restrictive and challenging.

Overview[]

As the name suggests, Limited Inventory Mode will limit how many items you can carry in your inventory. Exceeding these amounts will overload you, reducing your ability to move about until you are completely unable to move at all. Movement is not restricted at base camps.

To help deal with the restrictions, you are able to drop items and discard weapons and spells using [Right-click] or [Ctrl+Left-click]. Holding down [Shift] will select all of the same item to drop. Dropped items will no longer be automatically picked up, instead remaining in place until you pick it up manually.

The weapon rack can be used to store any weapons you're not planning on using, however any weapons that are not brought with you cannot be used. Weapons that you discard can be found at the weapon rack later.

The vault can be used to store excess items, so you aren't carrying them around. However items in the vault can only be used when at a base camp.

You can only bring 1 suit of armor with you to locations, plus any clothes and protective suits you have. Armor brought with you can only be changed at base camps. Amulets can be changed at any time.

Categories[]

Limitations are separated into several different categories.

Weapons[]

Weapons category covers any melee weapon, firearm, energy weapon or hoofmade weapon. Explosive launchers are also taken into account, however grenades, mines and bombs are counted as ammunition.

Each weapon will require a certain number of slots to be carried. Smaller weapons such as pistols and knives will only take 1 slot, while larger weapons like swords, rifles or shotguns will take 2. Certain massive weapons like anti-machine rifles or missile launchers take 3 slots. The amount of slots a weapon takes is listed in its stats.

Overloading by 1-2 points will prevent you from running or dashing. Overloading by 3-4 points slows you down considerably and reduces your jump height. Overloading further prevents you from moving at all. This effect stacks with Ammunition and Stuff.

Spells[]

Spells category covers all spells, both offensive and defensive. Each spell only takes up 1 slot.

For every spell that you are overloaded by, your magic recharge speed is reduced by 25%. Being overloaded by 4 spells prevents magic from recharging at all.

Equipment[]

Equipment category covers most of your survival gear. All medicines, zebra potions, and consumable tools like runes of return or stealthbucks.

Jump

If you are overloaded in equipment, you have a small chance to randomly drop an item while moving around. Taking damage has a chance of destroying equipment. These chances are higher the more overloaded you are.

Ammunition[]

Ammunition category covers all rounds, batteries and explosives (except launchers). Ammunition weight varies greatly depending on what the object is, with batteries weighing the lowest and explosives weighing the highest.

Overloading on ammunition will prevent you from running or dashing. Overloading by about 20% of your capacity slows you down considerably and reduces your jump height. Overloading further prevents you from moving at all. This effect stacks with Weapons and Stuff.

Stuff[]

Stuff category covers most things that have no direct use, such as ingredients, materials and valuables. Food and drinks are also part of this category, as well as portable equipment such as the portable workbench or field lab.

Overloading on stuff will prevent you from running or dashing. Overloading by about 20% of your capacity slows you down considerably and reduces your jump height. Overloading further prevents you from moving at all. This effect stacks with Weapons and Ammunition.

Miscellaneous[]

Miscellaneous category covers anything else that the above categories don't already cover. This includes quest items, keys, tools (such as screwdrivers), augmentations and modules, artifacts, schematics and spray cans.

This category takes no inventory space, and items can't be dropped or stored.

Increasing maximum inventory size[]

It is possible to increase maximum load capacity to be able to carry more at once.

Perks[]

In Limited Inventory Mode most perks will increase one or more categories, allowing you to carry more weapons, spells or items after taking them.

Items[]

Notes[]

  • By dropping many items together in one place, you can keep them there as a temporary storage until you are ready to leave to the base camp.
  • While being overloaded will slow you down, it will not slow down self-levitation or other forms of movement such as teleportation or the kinetic dash spell, allowing you to move at a more reasonable pace.
  • If you are overloaded in a certain category, items that will increase it further will not be automatically picked up. This may result in missing items you otherwise would've taken.
  • Limited Inventory Mode can be toggled with the hardinv command.

Trivia[]

  • Despite there being no movement restrictions for being overloaded with items in base camps, the ability to dash is still disabled.
  • If you are overloaded, items that fall to the bottom of the screen will remain there instead of being automatically added to your inventory.
  • Since double jump, self-levitation and teleportation are considered perks, they do not take up any spell slots.
  • Items can't be dropped at base camps. A message will appear: "Do not litter in the base camp, use the storage instead".
